The ancestral home of the Earl of Bellomont. The 12th Century property ~ complete with moat that encircles the house, lies in the heart of the English countryside, many miles from the nearest town. Bellomont would have bid farewell to his two sons, Nanfan and Richard, at the door before making his way to London, and then on to New York to take up his new appointment as Governor of New York, Massachusetts Bay and New Hampshire Bellomont would never see his home again and died in New York ~ a broken man ~ in 1701, just three months before Kidd was executed. Bellomont's possessions, including his personal papers were returned to Birtsmorton after his death.
